This black 4 year old, neutered lab mix is full of energy and excitement for life. He loves long walks in the woods and has a fabulous recall, but he equally enjoys snuggling with his humans on rainy days.
He is very food motivated. He has a history of obesity but is now in perfect fitness so a home that can continue providing daily walks and exercise for him is a must. He will be looking for an active home, he is good in the car, easy to walk on and off leash and takes every new environment in his stride so he would love to join you on your adventures and even holidays! He has also been successfully left in kennels during holidays so that is an option as well.
He is looking for a home without small children because he still acts like a puppy much of the time and could easily knock over small children. He is bouncy and still likes to put hands and arms in his mouth when excited (never a bite, just a puppy mouth). This also applies to his play style with other dogs. He can be in a multiple dog home but only if the dogs are confident. He would be too much for a shy/nervous dog to live with. He is crate trained and loves his crate, he is not destructive and can happily be left for 4 hours at a time. He knows all basic commands and a few tricks too. He’s a quick learner with the capacity to pick up new things!
He is a mostly uncomplicated dog. He is friendly with all dogs (untested with cats but has a low prey drive).
His only flaw is that he is prone to resource guarding.
In the past, this has elicited a severe response, but he has been through extensive re-training, and we now feel it is safe for him to find his forever home! But because he is a curious type and has these tendencies, your home must be tidy, and you must be able to manage his environment accordingly. Of course, this can be discussed in more depth upon enquiry.
No first-time dog owners.
He does need an experienced home with someone who understands dog body language and behaviour.
Please only apply if you meet the criteria listed and give as much information as possible as to why you feel you are a good match for this dog.
